THIS FINE 1796 INFANTRY OFFICERS BLUED & GILT SWORD WAS ORIGINALY IN THE COTTON COLLECTION MUSEUM SOLD IN 1909 PURCHASED BY JEANNE SULLY & LATER ON DISPLAY AT THE BROADSTAIRS WATERLOO MUSEUM FROM 1987 – 1999 WHERE PURCHASED BY US AND HAS BEEN IN STORAGE SINCE
A GOOD EXAMPLE OBVIOUSLY RECOVERED FROM THE FIELD OF BATTLE WITHIN A FEW DAYS OR SO AFTER THE 18th JUNE AND REPUTEDLY FROM THE HOUGAMONT FARM AREA SO IT IS INTERESTING TO SUMMISE THAT IT COULD OF BELONGED TO A GUARDS OFFICER WHO FOUGHT THERE
THE BLADE RETAINS A GOOD AMOUNT OF ITS BLUED & GILD DECORATION HAVING CROWN GR / STAND OF ARMS / CORNUCOPIA / SCROLLS ETC AND WITH BOTH ITS COTTON & SULLY COLLECTION LABELS WHICH ALTHOUGH FADED & WORN ARE SCARCE SURVIVERS
A SPLENDID SWORD WHICH WAS ALMOST CERTAINLY ALSO CARRIED DURING THE PENNISULAR WAR
SOME GILT REMAINS ON THE HILT AND WITH ITS SILVERWIRE BOUND GRIP
