UNIQUE CRIMEAN 1822 INFANTRY OFFICERS GOTHIC HILTED SWORD

THIS UNIQUE 1822 INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD of the second pattern having the so named Wilkinson blade the earlier type having a pipebacked blade and folding half guard
This fine example is unusual and unique having a silver wirebound polished horn grip which is in excellent condition and could be a Regimental variation but probably a Special Request by the Officer to the maker TATHAM as this pattern had a fishskin covered grip
The hilt has a Crown over VR in the guard and is of the gothic pattern – the blade is in good condition and has attractive etched decoration on both sides of Crown VR / foliage etc with the makers name on the forte – – HENRY TATHAM – 37 CHARING CROSS – LONDON
many tiny edge knicks from much Campaign Service and would of almost certainly have been carried during the CRIMEAN WAR as it dates from 1854

HENRY TATHAM – GUNMAKER & SWORD CUTLER worked at 37 CHARING CROSS LONDON from 1800 – 1860
