COTTON COLLECTION WATERLOO RELICS MOUNTED IN FRAME

THESE RARE AND HIGHLY DESIRABLE WATERLOO RELICS FROM THE COLLECTION OF SERGEANT MAJOR EDWARD COTTON WHO FOUGHT IN THE BATTLE AND LATER RAN HIS MUSEUM ON THE FIELD UNTILL HIS DEMISE WHEN HIS TWO NIECES CONTINUED UNTILL 1909 WHEN IT WAS SOLD BY AUCTION

LATER ON DISPLAY IN OUR BROADSTAIRS WATERLOO MUSEUM FROM 1987 – 1999
THE ITEMS COMPRISE OF A LARGE FRENCH POUCH GRENADE BADGE & AN EXTREMELY RARE BRITISH SHAKO PLATE OF THE 27th REGIMENT AND EITHER FRAMED BY COTTON HIMSELF OR BY THE PURCHASER IN 1909 AS THERE IS A PAGE FROM COTTONS CATALOUGE ALONG WITH VARIOUS LABELS DETAILING THE TWO RELICS – – ITEM NUMBER 231 – grenade presented to the museum by mr green who picked it up on the field 1816 – – AND ITEM NUMBER 195 – 27th inniskilling cap plate – THE FRAME MEASURING – 10″ x 14″ ins

THE 27th (INNISKILLING REGIMENT FOOT) SUFFERED HEAVILY AT WATERLOO & OUT OF 747 OFFICERS AND MEN 495 WERE KILLED OR WOUNDED AND MANY WERE LYING DEAD IN SQUARE KILLED BY HEAVY CANNON FIRE ABOVE THE SANDPIT ON THE CHARLEROI ROAD BUT HOLDING SQUARE IN WELLINGTONS LINE UNDER HORRIFIC CONDITIONS
