1857 ROYAL ENGINEERS OFFICERS SWORD

This 1857 Pattern Royal Engineers Officers Sword is in good overall condition – The Blade which retains most original polish has the makers name & address of HENRY WILKINSON – PALL MALL – LONDON one side HW proof slug other side and the numbered blade 18786 dates it to 1872 and is etched with Crown VR – Scrolls – Winged Lightning having ROYAL ENGINEERS & a GRYPHON surmounting (Officers ) initials – The brass hilt having a pleasing uncleaned patina with fishskin grip in excellent condition – The steel scabbard with some rust patches – blade a few small edge nicks from Campaign Service but a Nice Example of this Scarce Sword –
This Sword Belonged to the same Officer as our 1897 ROYAL ENGINEERS OFFICERS Sword and was aquired from the family and reputedly carried during the Zulu War Campaign
